Lectionary Year B (2005-06) Unit 8: Trinity Sunday--Proper 8
This unit covers the four Sundays beginning with Trinity Sunday and finishing with Proper 8. It is designed to help students understand the Trinity, and especially the role of the Holy Spirit therein.
Lesson 1: Children of the King-This being born again to new life. God provides a way for us to be spiritually born again to a new life in Him. We are born of the Spirit of God and are made to be His children. What does it mean to be born again? (Isaiah 6:1-8; Psalm 29; Romans 8:12-17; John 3:1-17)
Lesson 2: Things are not Always as They Appear- transformed heart, transformed sight. When God's Spirit rests on us, our life is transformed. When His Spirit is poured out on us, we live anew, and we see others in a new way. Do we judge others by outward appearances, or do we realize that God is able to work in them and transform them? (1 Sam 15:34-16:13; Psalm 20; 2 Corinthians 5:6-17; Mark 4:26-34)
Lesson 3: Slain Giants and Stilled Storms- The Lord's Power to Deliver us from Our Fears. God is faithful and has the power to deliver us from our battles. He is stronger than our circumstances, and He has power to do the impossible if we will see by faith that He is with us in the battle and in our storm. What circumstances do we face that cause us to be afraid? Do we believe God can do the impossible and deliver us from things that overpower us? (1 Samuel 17:1a, 4-11,19-23, 32-49; Psalm 9:9-20; 2 Corinthians 6:1-13; Mark 4:35-41)
Lesson 4: Healed and Risen!-Believing in the healing power of Jesus. Jesus heals by faith, even if He himself must encourage that faith. Jesus stops to bring healing even though the crowds around Him bring doubt and discouragement. Have we let our faith be intimidated by the voices in the crowds around us? Are we willing to believe that Jesus can touch our lives even though every one around us doubts that it can happen? (2 Samuel 1:1, 17-27; Psalm 130; 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; Mark 5:21-43)
